Odran's Irish Brown Soda Bread

Odran's Irish Brown Soda Bread is delicious at any time of the day, however we love it with The Rose Hotel's Seafood Chowder. 

Ingredients 

200g cream or spelt flour 

250g coarse wholemeal 

level teaspoon of bread soda

450ml of buttermilk 

pinch of salt 

tablespoon of honey 

1 egg 

 

Method 

Sieve white flour, salt and bread soda into a bowl. 

Add wholemeal flour and mix well. 

Next take all your wet ingredients, buttermilk, egg and honey and whisk together.  Make a well in the flour mix and add the wet mix. 

Stir well until all combined 

Pour mixture into a buttered loaf tin, sprinkle a few oat flakes on top and bake at 180 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes, pierce a skewer in the middle to check that it is cooked. 

Remove from the tin and allow to cool before enjoying!
